My name is Sommie Joy Nwabuko the reigning Iconic Queen Nigeria 2020, I am a very competitive and open minded lady , I love to learn new things . I’m optimistic and passionate about creativity and the beauty world.
World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment means to you?
Empowering a woman is all about equipping and allowing women make life determining decisions through the different problems of the society. When you empower a woman you empower a family, different genders, a generation and a Nation.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history.
Pageantry wasn’t really a thing for me. Though a lot of people suggested that I could compete for a beauty pageant. I've decided to give it a try in 2019 but along the line I couldn’t continue because I wasn’t really prepared. In 2020 I competed for ICONIC QUEEN NIGERIA and I won . So this is my first pageant. World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant?
A lot of people believed in me, my family and close friends supported me. The fact that people I care about believed I had a future in Beauty Pageantry.
World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?
ICONIC QUEEN NIGERIA as the name implies; very influential, recognizable and revered.
The title alone was all about the exact crown title I needed for myself and my brand . A very unique title for a great woman.
World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?
Iconic Queen Nigeria is a subsidiary of Kenssondials Empire, A National pageant which seeks at redefining beauty with standards, morals, beauty and brain for humanitarian services.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition?
We’re judged based on our Behavioral skills, Communication skills, Marketability skills, stage presence, physical presence, carriage, poise and confidence. Finally Charismatic Skills.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition.
Camping with other women from all over the country was fun. I could see how other women were so competitive with so much energy and worked hard. It was a beautiful experience for me.
World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title?
Media Tour at Darling Fm Owerri with my fellow Queens. I also attended the Queen Isabella Okafor Initiative, on 25th August 2020, where she fed and clothed widows who lost their husbands who were soldiers that protected us.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements?
I will say the past few years has been favorable, though I won't say I have achieved my aim in life yet, but currently I am not where I used to be. I've had the opportunity to work on myself and grow my brand. Dear Sommie is a brand that has different branches ranging from healthy skin care , professional makeup artistry , professional photography and styling. *DearSommie MUA* is a branch of DearSommie that seeks to bring out the beauty in every young lady.
Being a Beauty Queen is a huge achievement on it's own. Emerging as a winner of Iconic Queen Nigeria Pageant gave me the push I needed. Through this Pageant I bagged an endorsement deal as a brand ambassador of *Maxivote Nigeria*, modeling for top fashion designers and all. I see myself as having huge potentials and a task to achieve, work on myself and become an even better person, being a public figure I have to make sure I keep up with the standard.
World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?
The fact that I saw every single one of them as a competition and worked really hard. My composure and carriage. I also participated fully in all the tasks and tried to be the best in everything. My confidence and attentiveness.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.
It was a very beautiful moment . I was so happy . I knew I had begun a new journey. It was a beautiful moment. I was so happy and then I realized a new journey had begun in my life. I’m grateful.
World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?
A Pageant Queen is an attractive woman with potentials who has won a beauty pageant.
A beauty Queen does not only wear her crown with her head but with her heart as well. She is not only beautiful, smart and diverse. She also has to be with substance and she has to have a heart and soul for the people in order to really make a difference in the world.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life?
Now I have a prestigious brand I represent, a platform that helps me so better. Competing in pageants has also helped me realize that there are more to just looking physically attractive.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your selfesteem and body image?
Before now I struggled with low self esteem , but competing with other beautiful women and emerging the winner, helped me realize that I’m actually a beautiful woman brains. Competing made me so energetic and positive towards healthy competitions.
World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?
I feel I now have to do more , I have to show strength. A lot of beautiful girls look up to me so I have to do better.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over?
Being myself was my first strategy. Being comfortable on stage was my second. Firstly I got a very comfortable dress that’ll help my flaunt my cat walk freely, then I got a really comfortable shoe, so I don’t get distracted on stage. World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition?
I was very prepared. I was supposed to contest last year 2019. But I couldn’t because I wasn’t prepared. So this time I was very prepared . All my outfits were set, I was very healthy. I had the energy too.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?
I practice almost all the time. I watch tutorials online too.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?
A comfortable and beautiful dress. Not too heavy. Avoid dresses that might tangle with your shoes. I prefer slits so you can walk freely.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview?
Just be confident and answer questions smartly.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it?
Nothing really... I’m always very prepared.
World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest?
Some girls don’t get prepared before time then end up rushing.
World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience?
None for now.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2020 as a Queen?
I’ll make sure to do at least 4 pet projects. Educate children, empower women, provide for the needy and so much more.
