World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Can you share a bit about who you are? Like, what are your passions outside of the pageant world?
I am currently working as an Area Manager in a bank specializing in Auto Finance. I have been in banking industry for 17 years. I am an outgoing and friendly person who loves spending time with others especially doing community or charity works.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: I’m curious about your education journey. What's it been like for you, any particular highlights or challenges?
I hold a Degree in Economics and Finance, and is a Credit Certified Professional. Coming from a humble background, I almost lose the chance to further studies as I did not want to burden my parents, but they encouraged and supported me.
I studied almost 10 hours daily when other peers are hanging out. With sheer dedication, I managed to obtain a scholarship under Nestle and completed my studies.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Women's empowerment is such a key topic. What does it mean to you personally?
To me, women should guide each other and share experiences to empower another woman. Confidence and self-believe is the key and it would be made possible by a solid support system from woman of all ages.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How did you get into pageants? What sparked your interest initially?
Being in my comfort zone, I would like to challenge myself as I believe we should be a better version of ourselves. I witnessed the transformation of my friend who participated in MMIG competition in 2022 and decided to take a step for self-improvement.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What motivated you to participate in your first pageant? Was there a defining moment?
My first pageant was job related as its organized by the company. It happened during my 20s and the selection was based on nomination.
The girls build relationship that lasts till today and we have memorable time together.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Why did you choose to compete for your current title? What made it stand out for you?
I would like to improve myself and grow. Despite the challenges faced, resilience and agility are the two qualities that pushes me to be better. Competing on the world stage in March 2024, I will put in additional effort yet remain focused. Everything is possible if we have passion for excellence, casting aside our insecurities and self-doubts.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: I'd love to know more about your pageant system. Could you explain what it’s all about?
MIG is an international beauty pageant for married woman, emphasizing on your overall confidence, character, communication, and advocacy.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What do you think sets your pageant director apart from others?
Our founder, Datin Sharon Too has wide knowledge and experience in pageant industry. Working alongside with her is pleasurable as she is an approachable, caring and supportive person. She is a role model who could guide and inspire us.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: During competitions, what are the key things you're judged on?
For national stage, we are judged on pre-performance, advocacy, national costume, and evening gown segment.
As for world stage, it also includes pre-judging and swimsuit.
The judging system ensures that the contestant carries themselves well both on and off stage.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What’s your competition experience been like? Any memorable moments or learnings?
The most memorable moment was the time spent with other contestants during trainings. Even though we were competitors, we respected, supported and had learnt from each other.
That translated to our growth which could be measured on the finals and our bonding even after the pageant has ended.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Would you recommend your pageant system to others? If so, why?
Yes especially to those who are looking to come out from their comfort zone to contribute more to the society. The pageant system not only focused on outer beauty but more importantly on using our voice for charitable purpose and advocacy. It serves the motto beauty with a purpose. World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Tell me about your advocacy or volunteer work. What causes are you passionate about?
My advocacy is ‘Education for Underprivilege Children’ as I believe that every child deserves the right to an education despite the circumstances into which they were born. My journey towards the goal started in 2002 as a volunteer English teacher for 6 years. My husband and I then set up an education center to provide affordable education for children.
Education gives them the knowledge and skills they need to live better lives.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: With your title, what kinds of appearances or activities have you been involved in?
I have recently won the title and is preparing for the World Final in March. After the finals, I was invited to attend beauty pageant event in Singapore. After that, I would like to appear in more charitable activities.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Can you share some of your achievements, both in and outside of pageantry?
Within the pageantry, I won as a champion amidst fellow contestants who were capable and beautiful.
Outside of pageantry, I achieved milestone in my career as the youngest leader within my position level.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: In such a competitive field, what do you think makes you stand out?
Being coachable and attentive is utmost important to ensure we can improve. The knowledge should be put into practical and constant practice. Also, being true to myself and stay humble.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: I can only imagine how it feels to win. What was going through your mind when your name was announced as the winner?
Firstly, I am glad that my efforts are fruitful. Being overwhelmed at the same time thinking on what I can do more for the society using the platform. Since I have the golden opportunity to use my voice, I would want to set it for meaningful purpose.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What does being a Beauty Queen mean to you?
Beauty queen is a person who have confidence, courage, and respect for others. As the motto of MMIG ‘Be Brave, No Bully’ I standby that being a role model we should inspire all woman.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How have pageants impacted your life?
It does change my view and perspective of being a role model, we must be self-aware which is a positive thing since improvement is vital to ensure that we remain relevant. There are also pipeline of social responsibility activities which I would like to embark on.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How have pageants influenced your self-esteem and body image?
Woman comes in many shapes and sizes. We should be confident in our own body by maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: You’re an inspiration to many. How does that feel, and what message do you want to share with others?
With the title carries great responsibility to impact other on this path towards positivity and change. The message is to have self-love, be respectful and kind to others.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What’s your strategy for captivating the judges on stage?
Eye contact, smile and most importantly shine with confidence.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: How do you prepare for competitions? Any specific routines or practices?
MMIG do provide us pageant coaching under Maria Chan whom we learnt posture, poses and catwalk. On day to day, I practice based on her teaching. Having a healthy lifestyle, taking care of food intake and do exercises.
For the world final, I will continue to learn and seek guidance from my pageant coach.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Got any tips for nailing the perfect pageant walk?
Being disciplined and consistent on practice.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Choosing the right pageant dress can be crucial. What are your tips for making the best choice?
Always be open to hear opinion from others especially those who are experienced. Try on a few dresses to see which one flaunts your curves and shape for best on-stage presence.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Interview rounds can be tricky. What are your strategies for a winning interview?
Doing research helps. There is many information available online which could assist us with common Q&A. Do remember to answer judges concerns during the interview, speak with confidence and being true to yourself.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Looking back, is there a moment in a competition you wish you could redo?
There are so many things going on in the finals especially the makeup, talent round, catwalk, etc. Nerve impacts the performance thus with the experience on national stage, I learnt to stay calm by being well-prepared on the world stage.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What common mistakes do you see others making in contests?
There are not much common mistakes as everyone was on their top form. However, nerves could be a cause which deter the completion of certain routines. In the end, everyone does their best.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Do you have any experience in modeling or acting?
I do have an experience promoting Centrum Energy advertisement on Youtube in 2019. Given the opportunity, I would like to take on modeling and acting in the future.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: What are your plans or goals for the upcoming year as a Queen?
I plan to spread awareness on my advocacy ‘Education for Underprivileged children’ and be involved in charitable projects.
World Class Beauty Queens Magazine: Finally, what kind of legacy do you hope to leave behind?
As a mother, I wish to be a role model for my children to be brave and have courage to achieve their dreams.
To the society is being remembered as beauty with a purpose and made positive impact on others.
