World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.

I am Luanne Marieleise Zabala Peñano or Lamp as my friends call me. A mother of 3 beautiful children, Jarisha, Lahaina and Keon. I took up Special Education and now a Neurofeedback Clinician from my training in Hongkong. I have been a businesswoman in various industries for years in the field of sales, service, and auxiliary. I’m a part-time host, talent and model.

I’m involved in various organizations that come up with projects which help people in need like The Rotary International where I am presently the president-elect.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment means to you?

Women empowerment is vital. It is helping develop other women’s skills and abilities to be able to participate in different areas and sectors of society. It is encouraging women to learn to stand on their own feet and be independent in all aspects. It is teaching us to have faith over ourselves that we may get anything from life irrespective of the support we will find from others.

It’s sharing how to Love ourselves and always move forward so that we can achieve what we opt for. It is giving us the voice to speak and not stay silent against any injustice and discrimination. It is having equal rights and opportunities across the nation.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history.

My first pageant was when I was a teen. It was a pageant in our hometown and I was blessed to win. I didn’t join any pageants after that, as I had to prioritize my studies. It is only in the first quarter of this year that I competed in a pageant for married women. The pageant was held in February 2019. I bagged special awards though I didn’t win any major titles. It was an unforgettable experience specially for a come back in pageantry.

So, when another opportunity knocked, which was to compete for Mrs. Millennium Universe, I embraced it with all my heart. I represented Philippines - Asia Pacific in the International pageant held in Malaysia. Amongst several beautiful women from across the globe, I was the only Asian who was included in the Top 5.

World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant?

Back in the days, being a Beauty Queen in the Philippines was a big deal. Watching pageants on TV made me want to become one too. I was inspired with a beauty queen’s walk, elegance and class. They were so poised and full of confidence. I wanted to be like them.

As young as I was during my first pageant, I just wanted a training ground where I may walk with poise like those beauty queens I saw on TV. I thought that the pageant will help me build self-confidence and I was not mistaken.

World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title?

It was an opportunity that I can not just let go. Soon as I was invited to join Mrs. Millennium Universe, I studied what they offer.

It was awesome that I found out I have the same advocacy with the organization and that is one of the million reasons I chose to be in the pageant. There’s no place else I would want to be but where my advocacy and beliefs are in line with.

World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about?

Mrs. Millennium Universe considers its pageant as a platform where women may be recognized, inspire, motivate other women and where women’s voices will be heard.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition?

The Mrs. Millennium Universe pageant was one pageant I know which was fairly judged. I believe the candidates were judged on beauty, poise, personality and stage presence, intelligence, sincerity, honesty, character, and how we carried ourselves overall.

There were also some subsidiary awards given to those candidates who have met the standards of the judges for a specific category.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition.

During my international competition, I was excited. Probably, because I was not in it to compete with the other ladies. It was more of the intention to meet new people of different races. The fact that I represent my country and the Asia Pacific, I was more than content. Everyone was really and warm. It’s as if we have known each other for years.

There were trainings held, we visited some tourist spots and it never felt like a drag. We were enjoying day til night. We really didn’t feel exhausted. Storytelling about our countries and culture was awesome. Even on the day of the pageant, all the candidates were helping one another. It was a very pleasant and memorable experience.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for.

Breast Cancer runs in the family reason why I volunteer in several projects that bring Breast Cancer Awareness and prevention. I have also been an active Rotarian for five years that aims to end polio worldwide. Yet, there are some smaller outreach programs that we hold from town to town, that help our fellowmen, like Medical and Dental mission, scholarship grants et all.  The closest to my heart is being the voice of our special children and the differently-abled people. I grew up with a close encounter with special children as we had a school for special children. I witnessed how challenging their everyday life was. So, I involved myself in activities that help them improve their lives through skills and training and make them independent in spite of their condition.

World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title?

After the pageant, I have been invited to grace some charity programs in our city. I still continuously do my hosting stints for events, modeling and a couple of interviews that will promote the pageant and our platform.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements?

Being able to end a day with a smile and peace of mind is an achievement. It means I have completed a day’s task of being who I am with several hats to wear in a day. Being a mother of a 17-year-old, another teenager and an 11-year-old is one great achievement.

Seeing my children grow up as good, law-abiding citizens, witnessing their achievements and learning how they have grown up with conscience, fear, and love for God, is an achievement that can’t be compared to any other achievements I may have.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over?

I am unsure if it may be considered as a strategy but when I am on stage I just show everyone who I am and enjoy being there. I suppose showing the judges and the audience the real me with no presentations shows them the sincere and genuine me.

World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls?

Being in an International pageant means meeting beautiful faces from everywhere. The fact that they were l representing their country means they stood out. We meet diverse people with different qualities. I believe in the quote “Beauty is in the eyes of the Beholder”. One may stand out in the eyes of the observer and the other one may not. But, every individual is unique in their own special way. With all humility, I believe the life experiences I went through which molded and groomed me as a stronger and a better person I am now is what differs amongst everyone else.

World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner.

I was not expecting being called even in the Top 10. So, imagine how ecstatic I was when my name was mentioned in the Top 5. It was pure happiness and gratefulness combined.

It was overwhelming and I was too excited to call my family in the Philippines to share the great news.

World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen?

Being a Beauty Queen is not just wearing a crown and waving to the audience. It’s not all about glamour and fame. It entails responsibilities and obligations to yourself, to your followers and even to those who don’t know you. There’s a tremendous pressure that comes with the crown which a beauty queen will be challenged to take in. There will be guidelines and programs to be followed, events you need to grace especially during your reign.

So being a Beauty Queen is not just physical preparedness but also intellectually and emotionally. It’s not just the outer beauty but the beauty that shines from within.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life?

Being in pageants has greatly enhanced the opportunities that came my way. It opened a lot of doors of opportunity not only for me but for my family. It helped me discover myself. I have found myself having the abilities I thought I never had. I acquired interpersonal and social skills that I apply in my daily encounters.

Pageants drastically changed my lifestyle and improved self care. Last but not least, pageants have brought me friends and relationships from all over the world which I will always treasure.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your selfesteem and body image?

Pageants have a favorable impact in my self-esteem. It has made me appreciate who I am, what I have and what I may offer and to accept even my limitations. Pageants made me learn to embrace loss and celebrate triumphs with confidence.

World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel?

Learning that I inspire the ladies out there fires me up even more. I am humbled by just the idea that I may be an inspiration. I’m grateful that in my only lifetime I am able to touch someone’s soul.

I aspire to be an inspiration to someone, I have always wanted to live my life to the fullest and I may only say I did if I made an impact in another’s life. I am thankful that I am used to positively contribute to a person’s betterment.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk?

First, you have to be open to learning. Watch pageants or clips that teach proper pageant walk. If you know a beauty queen or someone who knows pageant walk request them to teach you. When you have been taught the walk, practice it. Do the pageant walk everywhere. In your kitchen, living area, anywhere. Until it becomes part of your system then insert your personality in it.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress?

When it comes to the pageant dress I take into consideration the venue of the pageant, the host country’s culture. I don’t want to offend anyone with my gowns and dresses. It is also important to consider the history and culture of the pageant in which I am participating.

I evaluate if the gowns suit my age, skin color, height, and personality. Most importantly, I make sure that I am comfortable with the attire. It will be challenging to walk confidently and strut my stuff if I am not comfortable with it.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview?

Nothing beats someone who is prepared. Reading newspapers, magazines and even books help in preparing for an interview. It widens our vocabulary and will help us communicate better. It updates us with current events which usually is part of pageant interviews.

I have always made it a point to answer from my heart. A sincere answer is felt by those who hear you. Maybe it will work for you too.

World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition?

There are numerous things I had to do when I prepared for Mrs. Millennium Universe. First is budget-wise. As I will be in another country I needed to make sure I was financially prepared. I read several articles related to the pageant and did some mental training. I went back to my exercise regimen and diet plan.

It could have been stressful but I was blessed to have a support system who assisted me for my wardrobe selection, packing and finding sponsors. I fixed my pageant walk and developed my personal presence on stage again. Last, I had to emotionally prepare myself as I will be away from my family a couple of days. That was the challenging part of the preparation.

World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it?

I couldn't recall any mistake I did during the pageant although there might have been. I don't really focus and take note of the mistakes incurred.

World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest?

I'm not really privy to my fellow candidates during the pageant so I'm unaware of their mistakes. But speaking in general, maybe a mistake any girl may probably make is not to give her best during a pageant.

World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience?

A decade back or more, I have had acting stints and bit roles on television and big screen here in the Philippines which I miss until now.

At present, I do modeling and hosting during my free time.

World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2019 as a Queen?

As my reign continues I intend to make myself busier than ever with charity works, and interactions with the media if given the chance to promote and speak on behalf of Mrs. Millennium Universe organization.

World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

I would like to be remembered by people as someone who had always had faith in humanity.

I want them to recall my smile to be contagious and that I have lived my life being able to touch their hearts and souls positively, and that at some point my mere existence gave someone hope.
