World Class Petite Models Magazine: Please tell us about yourself.
First I would like to say that this is an honor for me to be here for an interview with World Class Petite Models Magazine. My full name is Kaanchan Shrivastava Farkiya. I was born in India. I am the granddaughter of Bollywood film producer & director O. P. Shrivastava. I live in San Diego, California with my husband and a son. Currently, I am an educator, MMTC Board of Director, Global Executive Committee IATB President California, yoga instructor, and Miss WorldClass Ms. USA 2021. World Class Petite Models Magazine: What made you decide to become a Model?
When I was a teenager someone from the television industry asked me to participate in a state-level pageant in India and I was placed as Miss Madhya Pradesh India 1st runner-up. Since then, my new adventure of modeling and acting in television started. Working for something that I love to do and earning respect and support from people at a very young age was very invigorating.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: How were you discovered?
I was discovered by some directors, producers, and modeling agencies in India after becoming a state-level titleholder. Within the first year of signing to a local TV channel, I shot my first modeling calendar. Soon afterward I was featured in the posters and boxes of the different beauty and household manufacturing products.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: Please tell us about your modeling experience.
I have done several modeling works and it was a fun experience. Those were print and television commercials for products. My family and friends usually surprise me when they pick up a copy of my print commercials from any grocery or drugstore. With professionalism, hard work, and resilience, my experience in the modeling world was competitive as well as highly rewarding too.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: Which fashion shows have you modeled in?
From my teenage, I enjoyed many fashion shows by local, national, and international designers from ethnic to western wear. Such as bridal expo fashion show from Zara and original collection for bridal wear & prom dresses. Another special appearance for the 36th Annual Golden Scissors fashion show, with award-winning designers. I did the most enjoyable fashion show as a show stopper by other international designers.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: Which designers did you walked for or worked with?
I have worked with many local designers in India. The most interesting part of their design collections is based on their indigenous fabrics that I adore. The outfits usually had an array of vibrant colors, intricate embroideries, authentic chikankari. I am a big fan of all brands of ethnic fashion, dainty craftsmanship, and impeccable detailing.
An international designer Ahmad Murtaza designed a special gown for me from Dubai. His intricated work with jewels was so authentic. I love Tommy Le’s Haute Couture collection that has full of pearls, and rhinestones on silk, Rayon, and many different types of imported fabrics.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: Who would you like to model for next?
I would like to model for any international or local designers as I enjoy all kinds of sophisticated outfits and would love to work with all creative people in the world. Collaborating with professional people provides me an opportunity to learn and understand new things and I am proud to represent an array of local as well as all top international talent.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: Have you done any commercials or ads?
Yes, I have done several commercials and ads that include 24-carat gold, silver, and diamond jewelry, cooking oil, spices, eyeglasses, contact lenses, fabric whitener, beauty products such as face wash, face pack, hair oil, and other hair care items.
I have worked for TV and Print media for several clothing brands such as Jeans, Indian ethnic wear, gowns, and accessories, etc. In addition, some other tv commercials for outlet stores, institutions and educational organizations have been most interesting work for me.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: Why do you like to model?
I think my inclination towards creativity is inherent as my parents were artistic in nature and I admire my grandfather’s great work in the Indian film industry.
Apart from this, I intend to improve society as a change agent for all petite people and share to the world that never limits yourself. In my life journey, I realized that when you are living the best version of yourself, you inspire others to live the best version of themselves and that’s my goal.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: What is your favorite style of modeling?
Commercial Modeling and high fashion campaigns for different platforms, such as catalogs, magazines, products advertisements. Especially print modeling.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: Tell us about the photoshoots you are submitting.
My photoshoot experience was full of creativity, fun, and hard work. There were eight different outfits and my challenge was to have different looks and styling for each outfit. I had to change my makeup and hair for each outfit quickly. It took almost 7-8 hours for this photoshoot. The experience of looking at the photographs after the photoshoot felt a sense of gratitude for the work done with the help and support of my team.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: Tell us about the cover designer.
Tommy Le who is the owner of 3T Fabulous & Co. boutique is the cover designer. Managing Director Tommy Le is no stranger to event planning, pageantry, and the fashion industry. I have done many photoshoots for print and video ad commercials. All those photoshoots were so much different from each other. Most of them were story/theme-based. I remember I have done a photoshoot for a print commercial for a denim company with a giant python at the age of 17. I would like to thank each photographer I have worked with my entire life, all directors, producers, designers, MUA, and helpers for using their remarkable talents and skills to fuel our mutual efforts.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: What is your biggest asset as a model?
My biggest asset is a balance of mind and body and it's true that my life is a gift from my parents. Most importantly, my dad’s guidance and the knowledge he had imparted to me have been great assets throughout my life.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: Who is your favorite model and why?
I have many favorites such as Lily-Rose whose height is 5’3, Amina Blu 5’1, and it definitely didn’t stop them from becoming the muse of the fashion icon. These all models break the stereotypes of the fashion industry. I also admire Tyra Banks -who made history as America’s first Blacktop model, with her invention of the “smizes", and being a role model for Size matters in the fashion industry that opens doors for diverse groups of models.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: Do you have a favorite designer?
Yes, I have many favorite designers, and it's hard to choose only one. Some designers focus on regal dresses, some create varieties of gowns, and some designs chic fashion outfits. I usually enjoy heavy work for a piece. However, having a simple fitted outfit gives me tremendous happiness. Therefore, all credit goes to each and every designer around the world who has designed outfits for me and it's their talent and creativity that surprises me all the time.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: What qualities do you look for in a photographer when you want to work with one?
Photography is a form of art and it is more than just mastering and owning the best camera gear. Working with different photographers, I found that every photographer has their own specialty.
I enjoy my photoshoot with not only a professional photographer with legal knowledge, and have good networking professional, but also detailed oriented, and creative. I have met many photographers who have patience and flexibility, and they coordinate very well. If they enjoy the process with passion and imagination, it could make their work a little harder, but the end product is always magnificent.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: What would you like to accomplish as a model in 2021
I strive to be better than I was the day before and I would love to do modeling for magazines, and commercials. Now the fashion industry has changed and petite models can be signed. I know my strengths and there are plenty of opportunities out there that I am looking forward to it.
World Class Petite Models Magazine: What are some obstacles you encountered as a petite model and did you overcome them?
It’s true that fashion models have specific age and measurement standards. However, I never came across any big difficulties. Small obstacles were many but I always treated them as stepping-stones and now I found the hidden goodness behind every obstacle.
