World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself.
My name is Jackie Blankenship. I am a morning radio show host in Michigan: We currently are one of the only all woman morning radio shows in the state. I am a former collegiate cross country and track runner and still run everything from 5k’s to marathons today! I am a very active person and my family is the same way. My husband plays bass in an active rock band called Coldville and our 5 year old daughter is a competitive dancer, baton twirler and cheerleader!
World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about your education. After high school I went to Ferris State University on a cross country scholarship where I got my bachelors in Applied Speech Communication and it’s where I met my husband Jimmy.
World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment means to you? To me, women empowerment is to show support to all women and their passions and goals! When we lift each other up we can do incredible things!
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant history. I started competing when I was 15 years old when I saw a flyer for a pageant held in our mall where I grew up. I didn’t win that day but I walked away with a love of pageantry. I joked for a long time that I was the queen of first runner up - finding myself on the Mrs. America stage was a life long dream; then to win that title it was like all my dreams and hard work came colliding together.
World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant? I had always watched pageants on TV and loved the glamour and I really wanted to be on the stage doing it myself. I was inspired to keep going when I was 16 and actually met Mrs Michigan America, she gave me a little crown pin off her sash and told me to keep working hard. It was so special to me at the time.
World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title? Mrs America is the premier Mrs. Pageant. It is the original married woman pageant and as a 36 year old married woman that was the ultimate title to me.
World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about? Mrs. America was the first of its kind. A pageant much like Miss America but for married women of all ages. At the time that was unheard of! We are one of the only Mrs systems to have a state pageant in all 50 states and a representative from all 50 states compete on the national stage. I am their 45 Mrs America and I couldn’t be prouder.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition? Interview, Swim Wear (fitness), Evening Gown, On Stage Question.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition. It was an amazing experience! I met so many new friends and I’ve never been wined and dined that way in my life! The formal dinners, photo shoots, gifts, inspiring people, it was an unforgettable week.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for. I am an advocate for intersex youth. As a woman born with a difference in sexual development I found it hard growing up in a society that teacher there are only two ways to develop. That couldn’t be further from the truth- there are 44 or more conditions a child can be born with that could cause them to develop differently than a typical male or female. I work to educate and advocate for these children.
World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title? So far I have been able to do 4 different television appearances, multiple 5k races, parades and next I get to compete at Mrs. Wod!
World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements? My biggest achievement in my opinion is becoming a mother. Other than that monumental achievement I have also qualified and ran the Boston Marathon and won a Michigan Association of Broadcasters award for best morning radio show.
World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls? I think personality mostly! I am a chatterbox and I enjoy sharing my story and platform.
World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner. It was such a shock. I feel like I will wake up and find out it was all a dream! I even re watch the crowning video sometimes to remind myself it happened.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life? Poise and Purpose. “Beauty queen” is an old title now these women are driven and empowered- ready to take on the world.
World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your selfesteem and body image? Pageants helped me learn to not compare myself to others. We are all so different and special in our own way and celebrating that is what pageants are about.
World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel? It’s overwhelming but a good feeling! I like knowing that I can be a part of shaping what a “mrs America” queen is.
World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over? Just be myself! Smile, make eye contact and enjoy the ride!
World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition? A little bit of everything. I worked hard on interview skills and my pageant stage walk. I spent a lot of time with my coaches and really learned to love myself more in the process honestly.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk? Get a coach or watch youtube videos, then practice a ton!
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress? Listen to your gut and don’t be afraid to try something you typically wouldn’t wear. World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning interview? Speak from the heart - like you’re talking to your best friend. A rehearsed answer is obvious to the judges; they want to meet you!
World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've done during competing you wish you could redo and fix it? I tried to be someone I wasn’t to fit what I thought the judges wanted.
World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest? Oh I don’t know! I try to focus on myself and just doing my personal best.
World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience? I love theatre, I did community theatre for years I love being on stage.
World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2022 as a Queen? I would like to travel and do as much as I can this year with my title!
World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind? I want people to look back and think of me as someone relatable. I think having a big personality and willing to be raw and honest about my life experiences is key to making a difference as a queen.
