World Class Beauty Queens: Please tell us about yourself. I was born and raised in Venezuela. Since I was 14 years old, I served as an interpreter assisting and helping the Chinese community in Venezuela with translation. I also did community service at school teaching Spanish Literature to middle schoolers. In 2018, at the age of 17, I was brought to America settling in the state of Maine. I am a current student at Thornton Academy, and after completing my high school studies, I will be going to college where I plan to major in Education and Linguistics. World Class Beauty Queens: What does women Empowerment mean to you? To me, women Empowerment means to encourage each other to go above and beyond our goals, fostering a sense of self-acceptance and self-development. It means to strive for women to realize how capable and independent they can be, so that they will become able to transform themselves into stronger and more confident individuals. World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your pageant story. My pageant story started by becoming Ms. Maine’s makeup artist. One day, while attending a crowning ceremony with her, I was approached by a pageant director who told me to compete in a pageant that was going to be held in two weeks. At first, I was not sure about it, I thought I did not have the confidence to do it. But on the other hand, I thought this was such an incredible opportunity to help me overcome my fears and become more confident. World Class Beauty Queens: What inspired you to do your first pageant? What inspired me to do my first pageant was watching National Mrs. 2019, Chan Kry Khiev, become so empowered by other women and build up her self-confidence through pageantry. While attending pageant events with her, I saw and met many amazing women being part of a wonderful sisterhood and willing to make a difference in their community. I felt incredibly astonished by them and developed a desire to become part of that sisterhood. World Class Beauty Queens: Why did you choose to compete for your current title? I chose to compete for my current title because I wanted to try something different, so when I met my pageant director, Dawn Smith, she said that she wanted me to compete in the Miss Eastern Maine pageant, and National Mrs. 2019 encouraged me to go for it. World Class Beauty Queens: To those unfamiliar with your pageant system please tell us what is it about? Maine Academic Scholarship Pageant is a local organization willing to provide a voice to those who have ideas but go unnoticed to represent their communities, make special appearances, take part in volunteer and community service projects, increasing their self-confidence and enhancing their public speaking skills while having fun and making memories that will last a lifetime. World Class Beauty Queens: What are you being judged on during the competition? Interview, runaway and evening gown. Delegates are also being judged on how well they manage to show and prove that they are what the organization is looking for. World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your experience during the competition. My experience was fun and cheerful thanks to all the people I met during the competition. Getting to know and talk to the judges during the interview was very nice. The Fashion Runaway competition was my favorite one, I had so much fun on stage while walking and posing. Lastly, the Evening Gown competition felt magical. It was a great experience. World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about your platform or what cause do you volunteer for. Crown CARES is a pageant platform specifically designed for volunteers and titleholders to use as a pageant platform to create awareness of positive character education, help put an end to the epidemic of bullying in schools, cultivate a safe environment, and teach effective skills to develop social responsibility in school-age children, youth and teens. World Class Beauty Queens: What appearances have you done with your title? I have made several appearances as Miss Eastern Maine 2019, such as attending the Ms. & Mrs. Maine America 2019 pageant, the American Women of Service Nationals 2019 pageant, Taste of Asia, and the 2019 Biddeford-Saco Memorial Day Parade. World Class Beauty Queens: What are some of your achievements? Some of my achievements include placing as 2nd runner-up (once) and 3rd runner-up (twice) in an annual competition from my last school, the Athletic Games; winning the Scientific Festival along with my classmates; and receiving the Excellence Certificate acknowledging my academic performance at school. World Class Beauty Queens: What makes you stand out from all those other beautiful girls? Every girl possesses one or more aspects that make them stand out. I would say that mine is being able to speak 3 different languages (Chinese, English and Spanish). World Class Beauty Queens: Tell us about the moment your name was called out as the winner. I was very happy. When I was being given my crown and sash, I was wondering if I was dreaming. The excitement I felt for what was coming next was indescribable. Never in my life had I imagined I would have had the unbelievable opportunity of holding a pageant title, I feel truly fortunate and grateful. World Class Beauty Queens: What does it mean to you to be a Beauty Queen? To me, being a Beauty Queen means to use my pageant title to have a more prominent voice and bring into action my ideas and the ones of those who go unnoticed. Pageants are not all about looks, they are also about intellectualism and how well every titleholder invests their time and employs each one of their attributes when performing pageant duties. World Class Beauty Queens: How did competing in pageants helped your life? Competing in pageants made me step out of my comfort zone. It helped me develop communication skills and leadership. It also fortified my voice and character in order to have a better presence when serving the community. World Class Beauty Queens: How did pageants helped your sel-festeem and body image? Pageants changed the way I look at myself in the mirror. In the past, I was bullied for being Asian, as a result, I developed a sort of disgust toward my Asian features. Pageants helped me develop self-confidence which helped my self-esteem as I learned to accept myself embracing every aspect of my body. World Class Beauty Queens: You are an inspiration to all the girls out there. How does it feel? It feels absolutely wonderful. Being able to inspire others is one of the things I used to think I would have never been able to accomplish, and having done so makes me see that I am capable of so much more than I ever imagined. World Class Beauty Queens: What is your on stage strategy to win the judges over? My on stage strategy to win the judges over is to have a great pose and a sincere smile that shows all the gratitude felt to have been given the opportunity to compete in a pageant. World Class Beauty Queens: How did you prepare for your competition? I prepared for my competition by learning about the pageant system (MASP) and its platform (Crown Cares), choosing the right attire for each required competition (Interview, Fashion Runaway and Evening Gown), and practicing my pageant walk. World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for learning better pageant walk? Practicing is the best tip for learning better pageant walk. Pageant coaches can teach you professionally or you can even coach yourself by watching videos and practicing as much as you can, especially on your high heels. World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for choosing right pageant dress? Asking for advice and opinions from people who have experience in pageants and taking extreme consideration regarding the design and the color of the dress according to my body type and age. World Class Beauty Queens: What are your tips for winning an interview? Showing confidence, choosing the right attire, and most importantly, knowing your resume; every question asked during the interview is based on what is on your resume. World Class Beauty Queens: What is one mistake that you've made during the competition you wish you could redo and fix it? One mistake I made during the competition I wished I could redo and fix is my interview. I talked a little too much when I introduced myself, and that took some of the time the judges could have used to ask me some other questions. World Class Beauty Queens: What other mistakes are made by girls during the contest? Sometimes during the contest, girls might trip on their dresses due to the dress being too long. In addition, the contestants can get too nervous which prevents them from providing a good performance. World Class Beauty Queens: Any modeling or acting experience? No, I never had experience modeling or acting. It was really fun and felt incredible to compete in a pageant because I was able to develop modeling skills thanks to it. World Class Beauty Queens: What are your plans for 2020 as a Queen? When my reign as Miss Eastern Maine comes to an end I will stop my pageant journey indefinitely and focus on my education as I embark on a new chapter in my life once I start my college studies. Nevertheless, I will still volunteer, serve the community, and help others. World Class Beauty Queens: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind? I want to leave behind a legacy of tenacity and courage. Competing in a pageant was one of the many events in my life that made me realize that no matter what happens next, life always goes on, and that regardless of the outcome, you either accomplish a goal or learn a new lesson. Your Local Director: Dawn Smith Pageant website: missmainepageant.com & crowncares.org World Class Beauty Queens Magazine would like to say thank you for this amazing interview.
